Beautiful place to dine - We booked to have a meal for my birthday wanting somewhere special to go and liked the look of Lewis's, I'm so glad we did, we were warmly welcomed and... read more had a nice table.
The restaurant has lovely decor and we both choose the Fillet Steak which was cooked to perfection accompanied by hand made chips/onion rings/mushroom and peppercorn sauce
We found room to also have the Sticky Toffee pudding with icecream which was warmed and to die for
We can only speak from our experience and it was a very positive one, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and we will be back!
We would absolutely recommend Lewis's as a special place to go X

Outstanding food. Cold restaurant where we sat near bar - We booked here based on positive reviews on here and staying in grasmere. The food was outstanding and I can not fault this at all. We had baked Camembert and... read more scollops for starter. Main we both had pork belly. Absolutely delicious.
The only issue we had was the fact that we kept getting an awful cold blast from the kitchen. I assume from the door being open? We asked to be moved, but was advised we couldn’t (spare table at the time). I explained the cold and they seemed to close the door, as it improved. But by the time we got to our main it was freezing again. A chap behind us put his coat on and sat eating his dessert in his coat.
My husband (who had a jumper on), was frozen by the time we left.
On a cold November evening this was such a shame.
Otherwise we would have given this 5 star, as food was fantastic

Not the warmest of welcomes but the food was great - We'd travelled for an hour and a half by car to the restaurant in really bad, stormy weather. Because of this we were 10 minutes late to our reservation as... read more our sat nav took us on a detour to avoid a flooded road. I had tried to call the restaurant on route but was unable to get through due to limited phone signal on the back roads. When we arrived I apologised and explained our situation. We received a very frosty reception and I was abruptly told our table had been given away as we were late (despite there being another 3 empty 2-seater tables in the restaurant). We sat down and felt really uncomfortable as it was obvious the staff felt really put out. We debated leaving but decided to stay as we probably wouldn't find anywhere else at short notice. The food was lovely and the waitress in question did improve as the evening went on but we won't be back in a hurry. Really disappointing, as it was our first child free evening for almost a year. I'm not sure if the restaurant has quite a few "no-shows" and this is why we received such an unwelcoming reception, but they risk alienating genuine customers if this is how those arriving slightly late are treated.

Food disappointment - A warm cosy atmosphere where we have eaten many times and recommended to friends but on this occasion the food was not good. We paid £26 for a 6oz fillet... read more steak which we could barely cut (even with a sharp steak knife!).
The meat was tasteless and very tough to chew so left it.
At £26 for a small inedible piece of meat we will not be returning!

Good food well cooked. - The menu had the makings of a good evening when we looked at the postings outside. The restaurant is popular and you do need to book in advance: easy to... read more see why. The ingredients are of good quality and the kitchen team treats them well to produce a very decent tasty meal. Quantities on the plate are generous, perhaps at the expense of producing something elevated. But there are other places aspiring to that; this is good well cooked food maintaining the flavours of the ingredients. The value for money is very good and the wine list has a sensible range of affordable with a tantalising choice of something more pricey and interesting. Service was very friendly and prompt
. Altogether a very pleasant and tasty dining experience. Far far better than pub grub in taste, and service, without being more expensive in my opinion. One to visit and enjoy definitely.

The food was outstanding as was the service.

The veg that came with it was a mix of overcooked beans and aldente carrots so not up to the standard of last year. We ordered main and puds, I had the chicken supreme and daughter had sea bass, which she said was excellent. The meal sizes where a really good size; great if you’ve been out walking all day! Lots of vegetables too.
I was unsure about whether I wanted pudding but as daughter did, I decided in the lemon curd & treacle tart with cream, daughter had the cheesecake. All are made on site. My tart was nice; the cheesecake portion was massive, and daughter ended up only really eating the base of the cheesecake, but I think that was only really because of the size of it.
All in all, good service and hearty meals.

Shame! Great little building and location, but sadly the food you are served is terribly below expectations. Overpriced and overcooked, carrots with the life boiled out of them, dry, bland,... read more a food massacre!
Shown to our table, a little squeeze, but its a weekend in July and great to see a local business bustling with a nice atmosphere (highlight). Table menu is slightly different to the window menu, couple of dishes missing.
Two ladies at our side when leaving were subjected to an over-mature waiter (possible owner) trying to hit on them like a 70's Blackpool comedian. Cringe! They couldn't pay and leave fast enough.
Our turn. Young girl clearly on her first night brings the menu, and casually remarks a few things are missing tonight, leaves the menus then goes behind the bar to eat her finger nails! The food choice is average, the prices are above average, awful value for money, but in their defence, inline with Grassmere. You want nice food go to a 5star hotel and pay big prices, sadly everything else here is overpriced and at best average, Lewis's is certainly overpriced and below average.
Starters, garlic mushrooms on ciabatta (menu description), served, in a dish almost soup like with toasted granary on the side, 3 pieces, but two fell on the floor as the waiter/owner struggled with ONE PLATE in EACH HAND.... haha! Seriously.
he only thought he'd dropped one piece, returned with a replacement and gave it to me and not my partners whose dish it fell off. The third piece took shelter under the table until we left!
My partner is a vegetarian and ordered sea base in a lobster cream sauce, my dish was chicken and chorizo (blink and you missed it) with veg (different veg on the menu to the seabass dish - important to add).
Chicken dish, overcooked with bisto or maybe at best a stock pot (doubtful), the driest butter potato you have ever seen (cardboard texture) and carrots and green beans, I had to check the menu as the carrots were so dry and overcooked the were no longer orange! Worse was to come. The Seabass came with exactly the same veg, overcooked and appalling, but it does get WORSE, the lobster cream jus was the same BISTO on the chicken. I dare anyone with tastebuds to tell me otherwise! The meal was edible, just not enjoyable and certainly not value for money.
We hung around for dessert, surely they can't get this wrong? But having bent my spoon on the hardest Eccles cake you have ever seen, we finished the wine and retreated in shock, horror and laughter! It wasn't a life changing amount of money, but the food was no better than my lunchtime meal deal from the Co-Op next door!!! Having read several reviews I fully expect Lewis to jump on this and start being all nasty and rude, don't bother Lewis, its only your ego! Accept the criticism (or truth) take notes and pointers to improve your business - you have an amazing location, potential to reap more trade, just a few tweaks here and there and you can turn this place around. It's tough coming out of the pandemic, staff in hospitality is hard to find, hard to keep, but culinary basics are just that BASICS. Don't overcook the veg, try add a little butter or mustard, don't boil it to death or nuke it in a microwave, if it's a lobster cream jus, then serve that - we were told it was a lobster glaze..... really!!! Show the world a picture of your bisto or move on!
It's not personal Lewis, don't take it personally and come back fighting or lashing out with your verbal excuses like you normally do.
Improve yourself and move forward. Not the worse place to eat in Grassmere I admit, so give it a try.... if you can't get a Co-Op meal deal!!! ! Ding-ding.

The chips... read more tasted like they were frozen I really couldn’t believe they charge £26 for a tiny fillet and a few rubbish chips !! the onion rings were ok. The staff I found quite rude, we weren’t shown to our table they just pointed and said you are sat over there!! Saw the staff being quite rude to some of the people who came in to ask for a table, the staff seemed flustered and didn’t ever ask if everything was ok with our meal.
